How to take control of a massive iTunes music library →

Not what I expected, but the inspiration for this guy’s approach to dealing with an overloaded iTunes library came from a GTD-like approach to house un-packing, wherein you dump all your moving box contents into the middle of the living room floor and only take what you need over the next couple of weeks.  What’s left is not what you need (assuming it’s not your opposite seasonal wear) and is taken to Goodwill.

This is sort of like what I used to do at Microsoft, where they’d make us move offices every 6 months or so.  If a box made it into the next move without I’d unpacked it, I’d move it again but leave off the label.  Invariably, it wouldn’t show up at the other end, and if there was any ID inside the box, well, nobody told me about it.  Ah, free from clutter.

This is a great exercise, and something I do about once a year. I’m nearly ready to wipe my 83 GB music library to start...
